What type of carpet padding should I use?
Bonded padding is perfect for most areas of your home and gives you great comfort at a good value. But in spaces like basements where moisture can be an issue, synthetic padding is the better choice because it breathes and won’t trap moisture.
Bonded (Rebond) Padding:
- Made from recycled foam pieces bonded together
- Most common and budget-friendly option
- Comfortable underfoot and works great in dry, main living areas
Synthetic Padding:
- Made from moisture-resistant materials (not recycled foam)
- More breathable, allowing air and moisture to pass through
- Helps reduce the chance of mold or mildew
What wear layer should I be getting for my Luxury Vinyl plank flooring?
LVP Wear Layer (Simple Explanation):
The wear layer is the clear protective coating on top of luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring. It’s what protects the floor from scratches, dents, stains, and everyday wear.
Why it matters (without overcomplicating it):
- Thicker wear layer = more durability
- Great for high-traffic areas, kids, and pets
- Helps the floor look newer for longer
Quick comparison:
- 6–8 mil → Light residential use (bedrooms, low traffic)
- 12 mil → Standard residential (most homes)
- 20+ mil → Heavy traffic / commercial-grade durability
